From field to bowl: consumers meet an Eureden cooperative farmer

Published on 01 October 2026

Where does the wheat used in our pet food come from? To find out, about ten consumers visited a farm in Ergué-Gabéric, in Finistère.

On Friday, September 25, Patrick Le Corre, farmer-cooperative member of Eureden, welcomed these visitors to his farm as part of the “Field of Encounters”, organized with Carrefour and Purina.

Patrick delivers his wheat to the Eureden cooperative and participates in the “Living Soils” regenerative agriculture initiative. Like 110 other farmers in the cooperative, he implements practices aimed at preserving soils and natural resources.

The aim of this meeting is to allow consumers to interact directly with a farmer, to discover his profession and to better understand the practices that accompany the production of wheat, before this raw material joins animal feed activities.

Discovering how the farm operates

Throughout the visit, Patrick Le Corre presented several approaches implemented on his farm and their role in its operation.

Participants were able to observe a soil profile to better understand its structure, fertility, and the benefits of cover crops. The visit also provided an opportunity to discuss agroforestry , including the role of trees and hedges in biodiversity and water management.

Another topic of discussion: the complementarities between crops and livestock . On the farm, raising free-range chickens contributes to the overall functioning and, in particular, helps maintain soil fertility.

Putting agricultural practices behind a product

For the participants, the visit provided a better understanding of the choices made on the farm, the methods used and the challenges related to wheat production .

This meeting thus gives concrete reality to a raw material which then becomes part of the composition of pet food, allowing consumers to exchange directly with the farmer who produces it.

This is the whole point of the “Field of Encounters”: to bring consumers and farmers closer together and to promote exchanges about the origin of products and methods of production.

For Eureden, these initiatives are also an opportunity to showcase the profession and expertise of its farmer-cooperative members , by giving a concrete view of their work and the choices that accompany their activity.

Thanks to Patrick Le Corre for his welcome and for sharing his experience, as well as to the Carrefour and Purina teams for organizing this meeting.
